Julia Baker

Julia Baker is a poet, writer, and visual artist. She uses an interplay of image and words to wrestle and rest with the complex wonder of embodiment, seeking to listen to the space between words spoken and penned, to the sunlight between leaves.

Julia is a graduate of Goshen College (2011) and Bethany Theological Seminary (2021), with an MA in Theopoetics and Writing. Julia works as a Chaplain at Mercy Hospital in Portland, Maine. She is on the writing team of World in Prayer and is a devotional writer for Rejoice!. She teaches a Theopoetic Poetry course in the Theopoetics MA Program at Bethany Theological Seminary. Julia was awarded the honor of Visiting Writer for the Jean and Louis Janzen Writers Series at Fresno Pacific University in January of 2022. Julia has had writing published in Geez magazine, Kingsview & Co, the Crucible, CommonWord, the Center for Mennonite Writing, Rock! Paper! Scissors! and WatershedDiscipleship.net.

Julia would firmly say that poetry has saved and continues to save her life. She hopes her poetry is a medicine offering to others. Many places where Julia has lived continue to beautifully influence her work and she is delighted to make her home along the coast of Maine.
